When?
By: Administrator
One of the most frequent questions we get asked is, “When?” When is it going to warm up? When is the snow going to end?
The calendar says our temperatures should be warming. Our average high temperature in Sioux Falls for mid-February is 31 degrees. But we keep seeing cold air draining all the way from the arctic right down into KELOLAND, keeping our temperatures unseasonably cold – especially with these repeated subzero mornings following fresh snowfall. But “when” do we see some improvement?
As one who suffers from seasonal affective disorder myself, I am unhappy to report we see no big warm ups any time soon. In fact, the raw output from the extended range computer models keeps our high temperatures in Sioux Falls and most of eastern South Dakota – at best – in the 20s through the first week in March.
As far as the snowfall is concerned, we certainly have more on the way. The months of March and April are typically our snowiest, though my colleague Scot Mundt thinks the snow machine will ease up a little bit next month.
So in answer to the question of when, let me just say that every day we search the forecast data for the first glimmer of hope for a Spring thaw – and we’ll let you know as soon as we see one!

Well, we already have a fresh 2-4 inches of snow on the ground in some spots with more coming for the overnight tonight. Winds have increased rapidly this evening as well. Look for winds to continue to increase through the day on Sunday especially in eastern South Dakota. Blizzard like conditions will be likely across central and eastern KELOLAND on Saturday night and Sunday. Slight improvements can be expected by Sunday afternoon with strong winds expected to stick around through Monday in eastern South Dakota. The video below explains a little more…
