Good morning,

It’s a quiet morning in KELOLAND with a south breeze right now…and that wind will increase today 10-20mph ahead of the next cold front that is currently located in Montana.  Look for scattered showers and t-storms to develop in the western high plains of KELOLAND late this morning and this afternoon…spreading east by tonight.  Sioux Falls will have the best chance of rain after 7pm this evening.  Highs today will range from the upper 70s in Mobridge and Aberdeen…to the mid 80s in Mitchell and Yankton.

Scattered t-storms will continue to move east into IA and MN late tonight…setting the stage for a cooler Saturday.  Highs tomorrow will be in the 70s in most of eastern KELOLAND…with lower 80s in the west.

Sunday looks warm…with widespread 80s and 90s.  Will this set the tone for the month of August?  It does appear that the next cold front Sunday night will not be as strong…so slightly cooler weather is forecast Monday…with the potential for more warmth returning either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!

Good morning,

Rain from yesterday has ended…and around .50" to 1" of rain fell in many areas.  Here are some of the totals we have this morning.

Sioux Falls:  .53”
Yankton:  1.03”
Pierre:  .42”
Chamberlain:  .68”
Winner:  .83”
Brookings:  .20”
Spencer, IA:  .69”
Watertown: .08”
Aberdeen:  .16”
Rapid City:  .05”

You can find the rainfall map at our website…/weather/

Isolated showers will possible in eastern KELOLAND with cool air still rotating around a big area of low pressure in southern Canada.  Highs will be mostly in the 70s…with upper 60s near Brookings, Watertown, and Marshall.

Cool and mostly clear skies are expected tonight with lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s.  However, a warmer SW wind will help temps climb back into the 80s on Friday ahead of the next cold front.  Showers and scattered t-storms will start in western SD during the late morning, spreading to Sioux Falls by evening.  The t-storms will be most numerous by evening and some of the storms could produce heavy rain and isolated severe weather.  Cooler weather will follow Saturday with a slight chance of rain in the morning.

It appears warmer weather will try to move our way early next week.  Some of the long-range models are suggesting the heat affecting the Pacific Northwest will try to impact KELOLAND…with the warmest weather in the west.  Stay tuned.

Good morning,

Showers are on the increase in western and central KELOLAND this morning…and the rain will be spreading east through the day.  The rain and clouds will keep temperatures well below normal with many spots only in the 60s for highs!  North winds in Rapid City will make it feel almost blustery at times…with speeds around 15-25mph.  Rain will mainly affect eastern and southeastern KELOLAND this evening with lows in the low to mid 50s.

Tomorrow will be a little warmer as sunshine tries to move back in tomorrow morning.  However, a few showers or t-showers may bubble up tomorrow afternoon…with the activity quickly dissipating toward sunset.

Friday will be warmer ahead of the next front that will give us some scattered rain by Saturday.  There is a hint of warmer…almost hot weather breaking across the Rockies early next week into South Dakota…but we have plenty of time to watch the trends.

Good morning,

High pressure will build into most of KELOLAND today…giving us mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s.  A few clouds and isolated showers will remain possible in the Rapid City area.

Chances of rain will increase from west to east tonight as a cold front marches into KELOLAND from the northwest.  This front will keep clouds and scattered rain in the forecast tomorrow.  That will keep temperatures very cool…possible setting record low high temperatures only in the 60s!  The rain will end Thursday morning in the southeast with highs in the 70s.  It will warm on Friday into the 80s ahead of the next cold front set to arrive on Saturday.  That will bring us another chance of scattered rain.

We were able to enjoy another near perfect day across the state for our Sunday.  Temperatures were a few degrees warmer and we got rid of the pesky winds of Saturday.  We are watching a few showers work into western South Dakota this evening.  Those will work eastward through the evening and overnight eventually affecting central and eastern KELOLAND.  More thundershowers will be possible throughout our Monday, nothing widespread or severe is expected but everyone has at least a chance of some wet weather throughout the day.  The front bringing the thundershowers will also bring some cooler air for this week.  Temperatures will drop drastically from today back into the 70s across the state.  We will have another chance of thundershowers coming on Wednesday and another chance by the end of the week.

Have a great night and a great week!

It appears we will see another amazing day across the state today, with lighter winds, lots of sun and warmer temperatures.  The warm up will be significant in central SD where temperatures will climb into the mid 90s.  The warm-up will be short lived however as it looks like temperatures will cool off for the work week as a strong cold front barges through the area.  That front will spark a few thundershowers this afternoon in the west and then tonight and tomorrow for the rest of the state.  Temperatures will then stay fairly cool for most of the rest of the week.  Another chance of thundershowers moves in for the middle of the week.

Have a great Sunday!

About the only damper on today’s weather was that darn South Dakota wind!  We had wind gust up to 25 miles per hour at times in eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota.  The winds will die down tonight and won’t be nearly as strong for Sunday.  Besides the wind it was a gorgeous day across the state with tons of sun and comfortable temperatures.  Tonight will be quiet across the area with a quiet start to Sunday as well.  Temperatures will climb a few degrees from today and as I said the winds should be pretty light across the state.  By the afternoon hours we may see a few scattered thundershowers fire up out in western South Dakota.  Those storms will fire along a cold front that will bring more showers and storms to the rest of the state on Monday.  The front will also drop our temperatures back into the 70s for many of us through the middle of the week.

We will have another chance of thundershowers on Wednesday and again for some of us on Friday.

Have a great evening!

It looks like another amazing weekend across KELOLAND. This will be the first time all summer we have two nice weekends in a row! Today will feature a ton of sun across the area with temperatures sitting a little below normal. Our winds will also be a factor in today’s weather with gusty northwest winds. By tomorrow the winds will go down and temperatures will climb a few degrees as well. For Monday we will be tracking another cold front which will likely spark a few more thundershowers for KELOLAND. There will be more chances of thundershowers throughout the week but the next best chance looks to be late in the week around Friday.Have a great weekend!

Good morning,

A cold front will move into KELOLAND today, but it will pass through mainly dry.  There will be a chance of t-storms developing in NW IA this afternoon…and some of the storms there may even reach severe limits.  Those storms will then exit KELOLAND by early this evening.

Highs today will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s in the southeast….with 90 also around Pierre.  Aberdeen will be cooler with highs near 83.  Look for north winds tonight…and that will help temperatures drop into the 50s.

Tomorrow will be pleasant with highs into the 80s and partly cloudy skies.  Temperatures will be warmer Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Looking ahead…the next best chance of t-storms will arrive on Monday along with slightly cooler temperatures early next week.
