Hi GMAX09! Per Pal P's recipe for rommegrot is the best! If you're looking for a nice taste of rommegrot that's perfect for summer get togethers, just click on grant's gas.com. It's hosted by legendary broadcaster Grant Peterson of KBRK. Click on recipes, and then to Sandi Gruseth's rommegrot bars! This will have your summer guests swooning. It fits perfectly with a nice glass of wine or lite beer or nice scotch, or a nice bourbon, or a nice canadian whiskey or a nice vodka beverage, or a well the list just goes on and on, but it's the perfect compliment to akavet. You'll want seconds of both or all.

GMax.... Rømmegrøt is a cream porridge.... It's made by simply "slow boiling" pure cream until it thickens....into a "pudding-like porridge".... Top it off with some butter, sugar and cinnamon. One can stir in a pecan...and the person who gets it in their bowl will have "good luck" for the next year...

Traditional recipe...2 cups thick sour cream
                            2 quarts whole melk
                            1 cup flour
                            1/.2 tsp. salt...
Boil cream for 5 minutes...sprinkle in 4 tablespoons flour...beat porridge until butter oozes out.
Skim off the butter with a silver spoon and keep it hot. Add rest of the flour, pour on rest of the boiling melk...Boil for 5 minutes to a smooth consistency. Add Salt... Pour into hot soup plates and pour on some of the melted butter...Serve with sugar, cinnamon, and a chilled glass of aquavit..
Det smakke delig... (it's delicious) Per Pål

Hi Della...I've never seen the play, but I hear it's hilarious and that the Prairie Repertory group did a fantastic job.! Most Norwegian Lutheran remembrances are universal due to the profound impact (positive or negative) they had on our upbringing, so there are lots of similarities. I hope the play comes around again in Nov. or Dec. when lutefisk and lefse are in full bloom.

Am wondering if grouse recently saw Church Basement Ladies put on by the Prairie Repertory Theater. His blog seems to have lots of references included in the play. This is most certainly true!

I predict that when the aliens come to earth looking for us, we will discover that the secret to time/space travel was the viking ship with modern propulsion. It will bear beautiful, blonde, bosomy, women insisting that we indulge in their favorite foods of lutefisk, lefse, rommegrot and oyster stew. Of course they will offer vast amounts of akavet to brighten our day. Then they will demand that we divulge all the wonders of Lutheranism, and hot dishes. This is most certainly true, or I am not the prophet Groustradomus.
