Moellers’ latest appeal could be answered very quickly. Try the drugs on him and if they work then it was indeed a frivolous appeal.

Amen to Sweeps. People tend to need to place blame on someone or something for horrible events. Sometimes things happen that are out of anyone’s control. I pray the people of Pierre/Ft. Pierre and all the other communities along the Missouri who will be affected by the flooding don’t become bitter and full of resentment for the Corps, who are doing their best to manage what Mother Nature gave them. Here’s hoping all the levees work!

I have little sympathy for anyone who builds next to a large river and then complains when it floods their homes, while my insurance premiums increase to help pay for their stupidity. As for Moeller, there should have been some old west justice handed out to him long ago.

A comment on the first subject of the blog: cut the Corps of Engineers some slack, folks! We happen to live in a part of the country with a capricious river that’s fed by storms, snowmelt, and other weather up the line. The dams were not built to stop nature, and there’s nothing we can do right now with Montana’s deluge of rain or snowmelt any more than we can control it here! The Corps of Engineers has been charged with managing it, and while it hasn’t always been pretty for South Dakota, I absolutely shudder to think what would happen if they thumbed their nose at us, as we have done to them!

If Moeller was an indigent, you and I pay for his appeals with our taxes. Congress and the states have the power to limit appeals but have never exercised that right. Until people stand up and demand it, it won’t happen. People need to speak to their federal and state legislators. For people who are opposed to the death penalty, there is always the option, for e.g., of life in prison with no parole and the right to only one state and one federal appeal.

His sentence should immediately be commuted to life in prison, and he should be released to the general population in the prison yard. He could then be judged by a jury of his peers. Bet he would not last another twenty years.

Forget the lethal injection. We should either electrocute him or use the rope to put him out of our misery.
