Sioux Falls was full to the seams with “black Friday” shoppers, as anyone who had to negotiate traffic around 41st & Louise (for example) can testify. Not everyone was partaking of said holiday “cheer”(?).

A small but enthusiastic group of the local Tea Party group was out on a late notice event to show their colors along 57th street, just around the corner from Donkey Party Senator Tim’s Sioux Falls office.

SIOUX FALLS—Three pilots from the South Dakota Wing and the Sioux Falls Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol have been deployed to northern Minnesota to assist in the search of a missing aircraft.

The Minnesota Wing of the CAP requested the South Dakota Wing’s assistance in searching for Andrew Lindberg of Farmington, Minn. Family members say that Lindberg was flying a PA-28 Piper Cherokee and was going to meet his father for a hunting trip. Lindberg’s last contact was around 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009, when he sent a text message saying he was near Staples, Minn.

Lt. Col. Rick Larson, S.D. Wing assistant director of operations, Capt. John Seten, S.D. Wing director of operations, and 2d Lt. Jerry Zurovski, SFCS, arrived in Brainerd, Minn. this morning. They are flying the SFCS’s Cessna 182 with a state of the art Garmin G1000 glass cockpit.

Lt. Col. Larson did not know how long the South Dakotans would be assisting in the search.

The CAP is a Congressionally chartered private, non-profit corporation that is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. Its primary missions are emergency services, cadet programs and aerospace education. There are approximately 350 cadets and senior members in the S.D. Wing and 86 members in the SFCS. PictureThe remodeling of a Wal-Mart in Sioux Falls helped lead to a one thousand dollar donation to the Sioux Falls Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

The squadron received the gift as part of the grand reopening of the eastside Wal-Mart in Sioux Falls October 14, 2009. Wal-Mart store managers Kelly Kathlina and Greg Broekemeier presented the check to SFCS commander 1Lt. Daniel Thibault.

The donation was also a “family affair” for SFCS. SFCS Senior Member and Wal-Mart manager Kevin Rae worked with former squadron commander Lt.Col. Rick Larson in obtaining the donation. Kevin is the son of longtime CAP member, chaplain Lt.Col. Gary Rae, also a member of the SFCS.

“We are touched that Wal-Mart recognizes the important role we play in serving our community,” said 1Lt. Thibault. “We are also lucky to have members like the Raes who do so much for our squadron,” he added.
