The remodeling of a Wal-Mart in Sioux Falls helped lead to a one thousand dollar donation to the Sioux Falls Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.
The squadron received the gift as part of the grand reopening of the eastside Wal-Mart in Sioux Falls October 14, 2009. Wal-Mart store managers Kelly Kathlina and Greg Broekemeier presented the check to SFCS commander 1Lt. Daniel Thibault.
The donation was also a “family affair” for SFCS. SFCS Senior Member and Wal-Mart manager Kevin Rae worked with former squadron commander Lt.Col. Rick Larson in obtaining the donation. Kevin is the son of longtime CAP member, chaplain Lt.Col. Gary Rae, also a member of the SFCS.
“We are touched that Wal-Mart recognizes the important role we play in serving our community,” said 1Lt. Thibault. “We are also lucky to have members like the Raes who do so much for our squadron,” he added.
The Civil Air Patrol is a Congressionally chartered private, non-profit corporation that is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. Its primary missions are emergency services, cadet programs and aerospace education. There are approximately 350 cadets and senior members in the S.D. Wing and 85 members in the SFCS.
