We hear so much about distracted teen drivers — texting, tweeting, etc — but what about distracted adult drivers? I’ve seen them everywhere, and I’ve even been guilty of it in the past.

One study shows texting (or using your mobile device for any other activity) while driving could be worse than drunk driving. But do more experienced drivers feel they’re invincible and they couldn’t possibly be in a crash?

What’s so important that it can’t wait until you reach your destination — is it e-mail or looking up a phone number or reading about Lindsay Lohan on TMZ.com?

Why do we feel the need to be so connected? I read yesterday that some people think something’s wrong if they don’t get a reply to their message within five minutes. Have we become that impatient?

There are tools out there to help. A service called DriveSafe.ly reads your text messages out loud while you’re driving and lets the sender know you got the message.

But nothing beats putting the phone down. I know that’s something I’ve been working on. And you know what? No one was upset with me for making them wait for a reply.

What do you think about distracted driving? How many times do you see adults typing away on their phones while driving?

We’ll hear from drivers tonight on KELOLAND News.

We’re covering a little bit of everything today. Here’s a rundown of what we talked about this morning.

Motions hearings are under way in the Ethan Johns murder case. He’s accused of killing Deputy Chad Mechels last March. We’re in Parker for the story.

We checked in with several flooded communities last week, but today we’re back on Lake Poinsett. High water and wind is knocking out walls from cabins.

There’s a vaccine for dogs that protects against a disease that can be found in squirrels. If left untreated, this disease can be fatal. A local vet has seen a few cases this week. We’ll tell you about that tonight.

The Sioux Falls School District is hiring a company to evaluate the schools’ energy efficiency. We’ll show you what they’re looking for and the potential savings from making a few changes. Have you made small changes for your home to be a little more energy efficient? Have you noticed a significant savings?

A ban on texting while driving goes into effect Thursday in Nebraska. That means, four of South Dakota’s six neighboring states (Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wyoming) will have laws against texting while driving. South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana currently have no laws against cell phone use while driving. (SOURCE: http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/cellphone_laws.html)

Do you think all states should have laws against cell phone use and driving? Do you text & drive? How many drivers do you see texting while driving and do you notice anything different about their driving abilities?
