Around 6:30 tonight KELOLAND News heard reports that Rosey Quinn had been fired. A short time later a report came over the scanner of people being harassed at Second Chance Rescue Center in Sioux Falls. We sent photographer Jesse Goebel there to uncover the story.

He found out that Rosey Quinn had indeed been terminated as the executive director of Second Chance Rescue Center because the board wants to move in a new direction. Nightbeat reporter Ben Dunsmoor will tell you more about this decision tonight on KELOLAND News at 10.

Also at 10, Hall-of-Famer Harmon Killebrew’s giving up his fight with the incurable cancer of the esophagus. We have reaction from some of his fans.

A man who took on 50 jobs in 50 states three years ago is traveling the country promoting his book. Daniel Seddiqui just finished writing about his journey which took him to some fascinating adventures.

And, Austin Hoffmann explains the “inconsistent and aggressive” inspections of surface mines by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, or MSHA. He tells us about both sides of the story.

These stories and more on KELOLAND News at 10.

I hope everyone is out enjoying the nice 70-degree, gorgeous weather in KELOLAND. On the night beat at 10, Ben Dunsmoor takes us to the streets of downtown Sioux Falls and talks to people and business owners about the traditional ‘First Friday.’ The first Friday of the month, downtown businesses have special promotions and stay open later.

Authorities are investigating a crash that happened this evening. A car was west bound on I-90 when the driver lost control, going over the bridge viaduct, crashing onto I-229 below. Two victims, a female driver and a male passenger, were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injures. Both were conscious when crews arrived at the scene.

Also at 10, Austin Hoffmann takes you to Mount Rushmore and introduces you to the newest employee, a bomb dog named Aba. She is the fourth bomb sniffing dog the park has had.

And finally, flooding is still and issue in parts of South Dakota. Erich Schaffhauser talks to homeowners in Waubay about the devastation and reality they are facing. Bitter Lake doesn’t have an outlet so as it rises, it doesn’t go back down. Hear about the turmoil on KELOLAND News at 10.

As you may have heard, South Dakota Senator John Thune made the announcement today on his Facebook page that he will not be running for president. KELOLOAND News was the first to break the story online. Several other stories during newscasts followed throughout the day.

At midday, Ben Dunsmoor had a live interview with Thune about his decision. On KELOLAND News at 5, Shawn Neisteadt talked with a political expert about Thune’s choice and Katie Janssen spoke with the most recent South Dakota candidate to run for president in 1980, Republican Larry Pressler.
Tonight on KELOLAND News at 10, Dunsmoor has an even more in-depth look at Thune’s choice and what it means for South Dakota in the Eye On KELOLAND. He interviewed former South Dakota Senator Jim Abdnor for his opinion and Thune himself. Dunsmoor asks what role Thune’s family played in the decision, as well as other factors

This morning, the drive from my parent’s home in southern Minnesota, where I spent the weekend, to Sioux Falls, SD, took an extra hour. The roads were very snow packed in Minnesota, due to the 10 inches of recent snow. Luckily, I made it safely all the while going a steady 35 to 40 miles per hour.

Last night, Tony Barlow discovered a car stuck with our KELOLAND web cam near Aberdeen. This resulted in Jon Wilson’s story today, Brown County Rescue Caught On Videotape. We have also included extra footage of the Snow Cat used to rescue the stranded couple. I bet everyone who lives in the Midwest would enjoy having one of those this time of year.

Unfavorable road conditions occurred all over South Dakota today. We had stories about the storm’s path, scraping the thick ice off of windshields this morning, cleanup in Sioux Falls, Brookings’ 11 inches of snow and truckers forced off the roads by the conditions.

Tonight, both sports guys turned around on their drives to Mitchell and Canton, due to a nice sheet of ice on the roads. So, how do you find out what the conditions are like in the state and updated? Is there a way I could have checked the roads before leaving? Check out Ben Dunsmoor’s story tonight on KELOLAND News at 10 about the Safe Travel USA and 511 system.

Tonight I will make my big television debut.

Well, kind of. Angela Kennecke interviewed me about income based student loan payments for tonight’s Your Money Matters. Since I have worked at a couple newspapers during college, I know what it’s like to be the interviewer, but it was a whole different experience being the interviewee. I found being in front of a camera adds a certain pressure to everything I said. If you would like to see my interview and are wondering how to pay for your looming student loans, be sure to tune into KELOLAND News at 10 for alternative options.

Also on KELOLAND News at 10, Ben Dunsmoor takes us to the Grand Casino being built in Larchwood, IA. As Ben explained on KELOLAND News at 6, with the casino over 80 percent built and a proposed tax increase, people are wondering if the project will be able to be completed. Dunsmoor will be showing viewers the reaction to the proposed tax hike.

Erich Schaffhauser is in Corson County tonight investigating the mistreatment of about four to six thousand buffalo on a ranch near McLaughlin. See what is being done to care for these buffalo.

All of these stories and more on KELOLAND News at 10.

Are you sick of getting forwards and jokes e-mailed to you from your grandparents? Did you ever think of the possibility that you may be too young for e-mail? Kelly Bartnick found a recent study showing that may be the case. More young people bypass e-mails in favor of social media. However, among those ages 54 and up, e-mailing is becoming more common. Hear his story tonight on KELOLAND News at 10.

Ben Dunsmoor is back from the final FEMA meeting Wednesday night in Brookings. He is going to tell viewers about what FEMA is doing for final flood preparations. And, Angela Kennecke has prepared a Money Matters about the Dow Jones industrial’s rising numbers and what that means for your 401(k).

According to the story Don Jorgenson wrote on Wednesday night for KELOLAND News at 6, 248 tickets have been issued by the city of Sioux Falls since Monday night, and 18 of those vehicles were towed.

I want to remind you all to be aware of where you park your car and when/if snow alerts are issued. If you are unfortunate enough to be ticketed, it’ll cost you $35, however, if you are towed it will cost you another $120 to get your vehicle back.

Now, I don’t know about you but I can think of many other things I would like to do with $35. Here’s a list of my top 5.

1. Seasons of The Office. The old ones are on sale for $39.99 at Target, so you can almost buy one.

2. Get my hair done at Stewart’s. A cut and color costs me roughly $35.

3. Go to ten movies at West Mall 7. Hey, they only cost $3 each plus tax.

4. Pay my gas bill. Not that it’s fun but I like to be warm.

5. Buy groceries. Do you know how much you can eat on $35?

(I know the list is random but you get the picture).

And, on the rundown for tonight is an exciting Eye on Keloland about recycling in Aberdeen by Erich Schaffhauser, information from Pierre about an immigration law similar to Arizona’s by Ben Dunsmoor and Jon Wilson will tell you about the struggle to keep township roads clear with the drifting snow.

As a recent Augustana College graduate, I am happy to report that the Augustana students who were stuck in Egypt the last few days landed around 9:20 p.m. tonight.

KELOLAND News has been following the journey from the beginning. We started with a story before they left for the month-long band tour. Check out new stories about the recent protests, cancelled flights, lack of email and phone communication, switching hotels, etc. Hailey Higgins talked with an Egyptian-American who was involved in Facebook and Twitter conversations leading up to the protests. The Sioux Falls man says getting a new president is the answer to Egypt’s problems. You will hear from him on KELOLAND News at 10 tonight. Also, Ben Dunsmoor will be catching the Augustana students for an interview as they exit the plane.

Tonight’s ‘Eye on KELOLAND’ by Katie Janssen fills us in on a graduation coach in Nobles County whose whole job is to make sure students graduate on time. Angela Kennecke put together an interesting ‘Your Money Matters’ about a Sioux Falls man who moved from Las Vegas because he thought the job market is better here.

Please be careful if you are “out and about.” As always, check the user submitted Closeline for details on event closings and the recent weather update.

As a recent college graduate, I honestly thought that once I entered the “real world” and had a “real job” that I wouldn’t have to worry much about money. However, there are student loans, rent, electricity, cable, internet, food. The list goes on. Well, if you are like me and are wondering where to find some extra cash, tune in to KELOLAND tonight at 10 and watch Angela Kennecke’s Money Matters on how being more organized could save you money. She will explain the benefits of organizing your house and your finances.

Also on KELOLAND News at 10 is story about South Dakotan Corey Briest, who was on Oprah today. Briest is a former National Guard soldier who was severely injured by a roadside bomb five years ago. See how his family has adjusted since the accident that left him blind and in need of intensive physical therapy.

With the awesome weather lots of snow has melted. Are you worried about flooding where you live? There is a 98 percent chance of major flooding of the Big Sioux this year. Nightbeat reporter Kelly Bartnick spoke with some Renner (which flooded last year) resident about what they are anticipating this year.

And speaking of water, we also have an exciting Eye on KELOLAND planned tonight about a high school swim team from Sioux Falls with lots of ambition. Listen to testimonials from two high schoolers who are Platinum members on the team and practice more than 16 hours a week.
