Some breaking news came down as I was writing the blog. The baseball world has lost another great legend. Former Minnesota Twins slugger Harmon Killebrew has died. It was just this past Friday that we found out he was giving up his long battle with esophageal cancer. Keep monitoring KELOLAND.com for more information as it comes in.
Things are heating up in Yankton in the final week before the community votes on an opt out for the school district. I believe it’s the first to be held in the state since the state budget cuts to education funding. Katie Janssen is in Yankton today and is working to get details on both sides of the issue.
Despite attempts to smooth things out on Sioux Falls’ roads, I think potholes and bumpy roads are the most consistent complaint I’ve noticed about mentioned on our KELOLAND Facebook page. And now with an extra $3.8 million dollars in its pocket, the city council is considering putting that money to use on roads. That includes three projects that could happen this summer:
– 41st Street: Western Avenue to Minnesota Avenue
– Minnesota Avenue: 22nd Street to I-229
– Marion Road: Madison to 60th Street
But in our Newsroom Morning Meeting, we came up with some others we thought were also in pretty rough shape. What do you think? What would top your list for road repairs in Sioux Falls? Let us know on our KELOLAND Facebook page and Ben Dunsmoor will hit the streets to talk to drivers.
First there was flooding. Now, rain is delaying farmers from working in the fields and the clock is ticking to get crops planted. But the next two days will offer a window of opportunity before another round of rain moves into Eastern KELOLAND. Shawn Neisteadt will have that story.
