KELOLAND News received an e-mail warning of an expected jump in gas prices over the next 24-48 hours. Jon Wilson is talking with the gas station owner who is urging people to fill up now to find out what’s really behind the push to the pump.

Whether it’s because of gas prices or just to get some exercise now that the weather’s warmed up, drivers are likely to see more people on bicycles this time of year. But a crash that hospitalized a Sioux Falls bicyclist and sent a driver to jail has police urging bicycle safety. Whether you’re new to cycling or just need a reminder, Nicole Winters will take you through some safety advice for those on two wheels.

A Sioux Falls officer who’s giving bike safety lessons to 4th and 5th graders today will soon retire from the force. It’s hard to not miss Officer Denny Pottebaum; he’s the school resource officer who drives around in the Volkswagen Beatle painted up like a police car. Peggy Moyer will have more on his long career with the department.

You may remember the bank robbery in Centerville this past January where officials closed the roads in and out of town, alert citizens helped track down the suspect and a high-speed chase led to the suspect’s arrest. That man, Jeremy Bullock of Inwood, Iowa, pleaded not guilty to robbing the bank. He’s apparently reached a plea agreement and is scheduled to be back in court today to change his plea. KELOLAND’s David Brown will be there.

And we’re being told the waves are really eating away the shore in areas of Lake Poinsett. Shawn Neisteadt is back in the area to show you what’s become a serious erosion problem.
