It’s the final full week of South Dakota’s 2011 Legislative Session, but lawmakers still have a lot of work to do. We’re keeping a close eye on several bills, including Senator Larry Rhoden’s bill (SB 152) to leave property taxes at the same levels, instead of cutting them at the same rate as education funding. The bill has been amended and is scheduled for a vote today. We’ll keep you posted.

The pressure is on for local high school and college basketball teams now that it’s tournament time. A couple sudden star athlete deaths, one in Michigan and one in Colorado, are gaining national attention; both were heart related.

Today, Austin Hoffman is talking with a family whose son died of the same enlarged heart problem as the Michigan student. The Rapid City Stevens High School football player died following a practice.

And David Brown is headed to a reported fire near Colton.   We’re hearing a lot of scanner traffic, which KELOLAND News does not report.  But we’ll get any confirmed information posted to KELOLAND.com as soon as possible.
