An abortion bill in Pierre is headed to the full senate for debate this afternoon. HB 1217 would increase the required counseling steps a pregnant woman takes before having the procedure.

Nicole Winters explained the proposed changes in this story last month.

Today, Peggy Moyer is going to look at what happens right now and how this bill would change the process for a pregnant woman.

But on a side note, what do you think about the proposed abortion bills in South Dakota? The people voted on a ban a couple years ago but we seem to keep getting bills that make changes here and there. Do you support the efforts to change regulations since there is not a ban in place, or is enough, enough. Add your thoughts below, but also, please keep them on subject.

Also today, Katie Janssen continues her report on teacher pay in the state. As she told you last night at 10, some claimed too many school administrators make too much money in the state. But she found a conflict among reports of those numbers. Today she’s talking with a lawmaker who explains why, whether it’s in administrator salaries or elsewhere, it’s important for the state and districts to look into cost savings where ever possible.

South Dakota Senators also passed a bill Monday to increase registration fees on vehicles, which would raise $31 million for roads and bridges. I listened to the discussion on the floor. Lawmakers said they heard from a lot of constituents while campaigning who complained about the conditions of roads and were willing to pay more to fix them if they saw results. Today, Shawn Neisteadt is going to talk to drivers to find out whether that’s the case.

Northeast Sioux Falls isn’t the only area in town dealing with a growing deer population. Jon Wilson has more on the concerns Sioux Falls Police have with an area near 57th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

And we have some more improvements at to share.  Our photo gallery has a new more visual look and layout to help you see and share what’s going on around KELOLAND.

  1. Lynn Parker says:

Stop messing with our legalized abortion law. Clinics already offer counseling, have brochures and all the rest. If you don’t believe in abortions, then don’t have one. We have enough real things for our legislators to discuss – quit pounding this issue to death.
